My father (Bob Conley) and I are not very close. My mom and dad were divorced when my brother and I were very young. My step father was a truck driver and we moved around to different places and different states, and I don't remember spending much time with my dad or even talking to him on the phone. It could have been because my parents divorce devastated him and we were always moving, but I'm not sure.Although we are not close, I love him. I have always admired and been proud of his accomplishments. He attended college at Idaho State University and graduated with a teaching degree. He was a cross country coach and teacher (English and History) for many years at Highland High School in Pocatello, ID. He was their cross country coach from 1965 - 1990 with 11 State Championships. He was Region 7 Coach of the Year and finalist for National Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1989. Highland High School also hosts the Conley Invitational Cross Country meet every year in October. (I didn't know this until today). In 1986 he was inducted into the Idaho State University Sports Hall of Fame for his excellence in track from 1952-1955.
So I called dad today, told him I loved him, and wished him a Happy Father's Day.
